About this program
AmeriCorps members who complete a full year of service earn a Segal Education Award of $7,395 — the same amount as a Pell Grant. It can be used to pay for college, graduate school, or to pay down existing student loans. You also earn a living stipend during your service year. Most people don't realize this is available for adults of any age, not just recent grads.
Who qualifies?
US citizens, nationals, or lawful permanent residents age 17+. Various programs serve different interests — education, environment, disaster relief, healthcare, and more. No college degree required to serve.
What you get
$7,395 education award (can be applied to college or student loans) plus a living stipend during service (typically $15,000–$20,000/year depending on the program). Health insurance and student loan forbearance also offered.
