About this program
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is one of the largest sources of early-stage tech funding in the US. Multiple agencies — NIH, NSF, DOD, DOE, NASA, EPA, USDA — run their own SBIR programs. Phase I proves your concept works. Phase II funds full development.
Who qualifies?
US small businesses with fewer than 500 employees. At least 51% owned by US citizens or permanent residents. Principal investigator primarily employed by the business.
What you get
Up to $275,000 in non-dilutive cash to prove your technology concept. No equity given up. If successful, you can apply for Phase II (up to $1M+).
