About this program
The USDA Section 504 Home Repair program provides grants of up to $10,000 for very low-income rural homeowners age 62+ to repair, improve, or modernize their homes, or remove health and safety hazards. Loans of up to $40,000 (1% interest) are also available for homeowners who don't qualify for the grant. Widely unknown outside rural communities.
Who qualifies?
Homeowners who are 62 or older, live in a rural area, have very low income (generally below 50% of area median), and are unable to obtain affordable credit elsewhere. Must own and occupy the home.
What you get
Up to $10,000 in grants that never need to be repaid. Used for essential repairs: fixing a leaking roof, replacing a broken heating system, making accessibility modifications, or removing health hazards.
